Contract Work

LAIK is proud to do provide excellent software engineering consulting and contract work for private companies. This work range from consulting work to fill some specific need to create brand new in-house application solutions where we create the entire stack (database, back-end, front-end).

Services

LAIK main offering is a full-stack end-to-end web app development and deployment service. We will sit down with the client and do all of the following:

  • Requirement Capture
  • Tech Review, Design and Design Validation
  • Architecture Procurement (services and hardware)
  • Application Development
  • Deployment
  • Ongoing Application Maintenance (if requested)

In some cases, LAIK will also do smaller software consulting services, where we will only do part of the above list in order to help a company with an existing IT team that need help with any of the above items.

Our Fees and Billing Setup

We bill by the hour. The cost per hour is negotiated at the start of the project. We will then send an invoice each month based on hours worked, and you can decide if you are happy with the progress velocity and decide if you wish to continue hiring us or not.

Previous clients and projects

The Component Scanner

Client: Ljungby Maskin AB

A large manufacturing company creating industrial machinery require to know the serial numbers of all the components that is within each machine so that if e.g. the engine supplier report issues with a batch of engines, my client can then search for the afflicted serial numbers and find the affected machines.

We created an app that could run on cheap Android phones, using the camera to scan the various 1D and 2D codes on the components, extract the serial numbers and add them to a searchable database.

Part of the challenge with the project was evaluating options for doing the barcode scanning. There was also a lot of different components with wildly different codes, serial number encoding and special-case considerations to handle.

The Warranty/Return Workflows

Client: Ljungby Maskin AB

A company hired us to replace their paper-based workflow around handling warranty and return claims with a digitized workflow.

Customers would enter their claim using a web form. Claim were added to a database and guided through a custom workflow. In each step of the workflow, the relevant decision maker of the company would see the claims waiting on them, and be presented with clear tools for how to process the claim.

The technology behind the project was simple. The challenge was to interview the various team members to piece out intricate workflow they had and capture it in code.

Repair and Resell

Client: Ljungby Maskin AB

A manufacturer of industrial machinery has a used-machine business, where they would buy back used machines, inspect them for damage, repair any issues found and then resell the machinery as used-goods.

They hired us to create an app that would guide the inspectors through an inspection checklist. Any issues found would be noted against the checklist including both a textual and a photographic description of the issue.

If there were issues, the checklist of items would be sent to the repair department that would fix the issues and check them off.

A final inspection would confirm all the issues fixed, and then machine then marked as ready to be sold on the secondary market.

Police Boot Shine Ticketing

Client: Code 7

A high-street boot shine company aimed at police hired me to create an app that would run on a kiosk-screen inside the store. The app would guide the customer to select the items required to be dropped off, which then got printed as tags that could be attached to the dropped-off items.

Each tag would include a QR code which the shiner could scan when they were done with the item. When all items in the order had been marked as done, a text message is sent to the customer letting them know they can come collect their items.

Firebase Migration

Client: Nirvana

A popular todo application wanted to migrate their back-end over to Firebase. Since the company didn’t have much in-house experience with Firebase, they hired us as a consultant to help them. We helped with educating them about Firebase, helped design the new Firebase-focused architect and also created tools required to migrate from the old back-end.

Bus Company Database API Work

Client: Anaheim Regional Transportation

A very large US bus company hired us to help them connect various API from their vendors in order to collect data in a database. This database would then be used to guarantee good service for the customers upcoming planned trips, as well as follow up on any feedback given afterwards.

This job was largely just diving through vendor API documentation to understand how to find and extract the information needed, as well as writing scripts to execute the required calls.
